Raquel Shaffer
Head Coach

A former standout at Nyack College, Raquel Shaffer began leading the Warriors Volleyball program in 2008. Shaffer, who was an NAIA All-American in 2001, previously served as head coach at Tappan Zee High School for four seasons prior to taking over the Warriors Volleyball program. Under her guidance, Tappan Zee reached the post-season in each of her four years at the helm.

A very decorated high school athlete, Shaffer was an all-state selection in her junior and senior seasons at North Rockland High School.

Raquel and her husband, Bret were married in 2009 and currently reside in Nyack with their son, Logan.

Bret Shaffer
Assistant Coach

Bret Shaffer came to Nyack in 2008 as an assistant coach with the Warrior's Volleyball Program. A graduate of Wayne Hills High School, in Wayne, NJ, Shaffer was a 4-year varsity letter recipient on the volleyball team as well as a 3-year starter. During his high school career Shaffer was a 2 year captain, 2 year coach's award winner, and 2 year all-county selection. Along with coaching, Shaffer has been competing in the USAV Men's BB division for the past 10 seasons. In 2008, at the Adult Club Championships, in Atlanta, GA, Shaffer was a part of the gold medal winning team in the Regular Co-Ed Division.

Shaffer is also a head coach at the club level for Alpha Gamma Juniors Volleyball Club, out of Sleepy Hollow, NY.

Outside of volleyball, Shaffer is a 2001 graduate of Lincoln Technical Institute, with a degree in Architectural Drafting. He is currently employed with Pella Windows and Doors as a Project Coordinator, in West Caldwell, NJ.

Michelle Belo
Assistant Coach

Michelle competed at Nyack College as the starting Libero from Fall of 2010 to Spring of 2013. Some of her accomplishments include: CACC 2nd Team All Conference in 2010 and CACC Honorable Mention in 2011 and 2013. Michelle was the team Chaplain in 2011 and 2012, and team captain in 2013.

While at Nyack, Michelle earned the Four Year Gainer Award for her character and accomplishments on and off the court. She traveled with USA AIA to play in Curacao in the summer of 2011, and with Athletes in Action to Costa Rica in the summer of 2012, as well as Mexico in the summer of 2013.

Michelle graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in TESOL in 2013, and began working on her Master’s in Intercultural Studies during her last season with Nyack.  Michelle and her husband Tom reside in Nyack.
